The elections for County Council are this Thursday, May 1 and the Green Party has an inspiring, dedicated, experienced candidate running – Sara Wilson. Sara is currently Ilfracombe’s District Councillor, representing Ilfracombe West. Prior to that, she was a Town Councillor for 4 years. She has established a reputation as a leader with a clear commitment to listening to, representing, and working to meet the needs of Ilfracombe’s citizens. I have the privilege of working as her campaign manager and, along with many others in this community, have been earnestly working to see her elected.

The County Council is a powerful institution with responsibilities that include roads, waste disposal, social care and education. We need a strong, caring, responsible voice on this body and Sara has proven her care for the Ilfracombe community. She is dedicated to enabling meaningful local governmental actions which respond to constituent needs and priorities. While recognizing the complex problems that must be addressed, she relishes Ilfracombe’s diversity, character, and natural and cultural attributes.

Sara has deep roots in the community and thus has an experiential understanding of the needs of local businesses and the community groups that make Ilfracombe such a distinctive place to live. She has worked hard to improve the lives of long term residents as well as recent arrivals and visitors. She has a proven and heartfelt commitment to protecting and enhancing the natural beauties and resources that make this such a special place to live and work.

There are many critical issues coming up in the months ahead including the future structure of local governance, funding sources and outlays, planning priorities, and environmental initiatives – all of which will directly and deeply effect our lives and those of future generations. We need someone who is informed, responsible, humane, hardworking and forthright, someone who will serve as an ethical, independent and conscientious voice. That is what local government is at its best and Sara – who has proven herself a strong presence on the District Council – will be an excellent County Councillor.

Be sure to get out and vote on Thursday!!
